Spaying and neutering do more than prevent unplanned litters. These procedures help:

  • Reduce the risk of certain health conditions
  • Support better, calmer behavior
  • Contribute to a longer, healthier, and happier life for your pet

Spay (For Female Pets)

A spay, or ovariohysterectomy, is a surgical procedure that removes the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and uterus, permanently preventing pregnancy and stopping the reproductive cycle. Spaying before your pet's first heat cycle provides the greatest health benefits, including protection against:

  • Mammary tumors
  • Serious uterine infections such as pyometra

Neuter (For Male Pets)

Neutering is a surgical procedure that removes the testicles. Recommended timing differs between species:

  • Dogs: Small breeds are typically neutered around six months of age, while large breeds may benefit from waiting until growth is complete, usually between 9 and 15 months
  • Cats: Neutering is generally recommended by five months of age

Your veterinarian will help determine the best timing based on your pet's individual needs.

Beyond preventing unwanted litters, neutering helps:
  • Reduce behaviors such as roaming, marking, and aggression
  • Eliminate the risk of testicular cancer
  • Lower the risk of prostate enlargement and infections
